For the Mum Who Doesn’t Feel Ready to Be in the Photos

Most mums book newborn photos because they want to remember their baby while they are still tiny.

The little hands. The sleepy face.
The way they curl into your chest.
The first tiny smiles you swear you’ll never forget, but somehow already feel scared of losing.
But being in the photos yourself can feel like a whole other thing.

Especially when you are newly postpartum, running on no sleep, and still trying to find your feet as a mum.

Amy originally planned to book photos of just Cleo while she was still a newborn. Simple, beautiful baby photos. No pressure on her to be in front of the camera.

But I will always gently encourage mums to step into a few frames too. Not because you need to look perfect but because one day, these photos will mean more than you can understand in the moment.

They will show you what your baby already knew. That you were their whole world.

Amy arrived after a hard night. Cleo had barely slept, and Amy was feeling exhausted, emotional and unsure. In her words, being photographed was the last thing she wanted.

But the studio is not here to ask you to perform.

It is warm. It is calm. It is slow.

You arrive. I take the pressure off. Baby is wrapped, settled, held gently and photographed at their pace. If they need a feed, we stop. If you need a breath, we stop. Nothing is rushed... and somewhere in the middle of that, the photos happen.

The ones where you are not trying to look like a mother... you just are one.

Hears what Amy thought.

“Originally, I had only planned to book a few photos of just Cleo while she was still a newborn, but I’m so glad you encouraged me to be part of the session too. Having these beautiful images of us together is something I’ll cherish forever.

It was also the first time since becoming a mum that I was able to slow down and enjoy a calm, peaceful morning.

To be honest, I wasn’t in a great headspace when I arrived. Cleo hadn’t slept well the night before, and I was feeling overwhelmed and unsure of myself as a new mum. I had actually spent most of the morning in tears and felt physically exhausted. The last thing I wanted was to be in front of a camera.

But from the moment I walked into your studio, I began to relax.

You made me feel so comfortable, and you were incredible with Cleo. I warned you she might be a little upset because she had not slept much, but she was so calm with you, which helped me relax even more.

The whole experience felt so gentle and unhurried. It didn’t feel like a photoshoot at all, but more like a quiet, meaningful morning spent bonding with my daughter.

As I mentioned, I really didn’t want to be in any photos, but you made me feel at ease and even confident, something I’ve never experienced before when being photographed.

I’m so grateful for this experience. It truly helped me slow down and appreciate this special time with Cleo.

Capturing her first proper smile means the world to me, and I’ll treasure that moment forever. My favourite photo would have to be the one of her smiling, although the breastfeeding photos are incredibly special to me as well.

Looking back at the photos makes me feel so happy and so glad I booked the experience with you.”
